Advice from business owner proves popular on Facebook forum
RE/MAX Results broker owner Hayley Van De Ven displayed great form in front of a camera when she recently appeared on The Real Estate Community live streaming session.
Well-known real estate identities Zac McHardy and Edgar Natolo invited Ms Van De Ven to speak about recruitment strategies and the importance of office culture after recognising the phenomenal growth that has occurred in her business over the past six months.
Ms Van De Ven explained there had been 46.7 per cent growth in agent numbers, they have added 50 square metres in floor space and are about to undergo office renovations to accommodate more growth.
The team currently sits at 34, including a mixture of high performing employed sales people and conjunctional agents
Ms Van De Ven spoke for just under an hour sharing her experiences.
She described herself as non-selling business owner, which she said was a major point-of difference in effective business growth. And further take-away messages for other business owners include:
- My agents are my clients… they don’t work for me, they work with me!
- We don’t believe in glass ceiling here.
- Sales people are big picture thinkers. That’s why they need a PA
Ms Van De Ven said support was the great drawcard for agents; that, and the career progression plan that RE/MAX Results has in place.
She names RE/MAX Regency’s Murray Carter as one of her role models, describing him as a phenomenal recruiter who has created a culture that to real estate professionals seek out.
Having a business culture and an office environment that people want to be part of is paramount to success, she believes.
Ms Van De Ven recognises the value of her property management and the complexity of their job. She says they are different to sales people, tend to be task orientated and need to be recognised and rewarded in a way that may differ to rewarding sales achievements.
The right incentives and recognition are important for everyone.
The Real Estate Community Group was established in 2012 as a forum for people involved in the real estate industry in any way, worldwide, where members can talk about anything real estate. It does not accommodate listings, live or sold, job advertisements, event promotion, or brand and self-promotion. It currently has more than 8000 members.
Ms Van De Ven’s Wednesday evening interview was aired on five different channels and had around 1500 views in less than 24 hours, and that was in one channel alone.
