Auction proceeds of a two-bedroom Labrador apartment just one street back from the Broadwater will make an enormous difference to the many pets under the care of Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ)
The Ben Williams Team, RE/MAX Regency, brings the property to market leading into a Public Trustee Auction on Saturday 14th September at AWLQ’s home in Shelter Road, Coombabah, commencing 9am.
“The cost-of-living crisis has really hit hard for AWLQ, with the number of animals in need constantly rising,” said Ben Williams, “and the CEO Katie Garrett says the funds from this auction will be a true lifesaver for many animals in their care.”
He said the ground floor unit offers lifestyle and value in an awesome location, with Labrador currently undergoing a renaissance of new developments and infrastructure.
“It’s surrounded by cafes and restaurants and within a two-minute walk to the Broadwater. There’s going to be a lot of competition for this one, I’m sure.”
Mr Williams said the owner, who passed away from natural causes, had a personal relationship with AWLQ having supported them for many years.
“He left the total proceeds of the property sale to APWL, and we are honoured to handle the process,” he said.
The Ben Williams Team is no newcomer to charity auctions, with the most recent being another successful outcome for AWLQ from a Public Trustee auction in February this year.
“We will once again get the best result we can for the 60-year-old charity and to honour the legacy of the deceased homeowner,” Mr Willams said.
The property must and will be sold under the hammer, and no offers can be considered prior to public auction.

A MUST-READ: background from AWLQ regarding the generous gift of the property auction
D was a devoted supporter of AWLQ for many years. Despite not owning a car, he regularly made the journey to the shelter by bus, walking up Shelter Road with a heavy backpack filled with food for the cats. Rain or shine, winter or summer, he never wavered in his commitment, often braving extreme heat to bring his donations. The generous gift he left in his will makes a significant impact on AWLQ, enabling us to continue supporting animals and the community. With over 94 cents of every dollar going directly to animals in our care, his legacy will continue to make a difference for years to come.
D took thoughtful steps to ensure his cat, Taffy, would be cared for by joining our Legacy Pet and Golden Hearts programs, and when he was hospitalized, that gave access to AWLQ’s Emergency Boarding service. The team prioritized bringing Taffy into their care. After a thorough search of the property and surrounding gardens, Taffy was found hiding under a hedge, emerging only to eat food left out by neighbours.
Once in AWLQ’s care, Taffy underwent a comprehensive vet examination and, recognizing the stress he was under, we placed him with one of our foster carers to help him recover while waiting for his owner to return home. Sadly, that day never came.
However, in a heartwarming turn of events, the foster carer fell in love with him and decided to adopt him, giving Taffy the forever home he deserved.
