Gladstone featured in an recent episode of Country House Hunters Australia but Brisbane and Sydney viewers will have to wait to see several of RE/MAX agent Ros Waters’ listings and clients appear on their screens courtesy of the NRL State of Origin telecast.
Ros was contacted earlier this year by the series’ producers and was excited to be asked to select listings and clients to be showcased in an episode promoting the Gladstone Region.
“I was delighted to suggest some of my beautiful property listings and wonderful clients to show off this incredible region we live in,” says Ros.
She was asked to invite current vendors to offer their properties for inspection by buyers also of her choosing.
“My clients and the buyers I chose were all very excited and willing to be involved in the episode.
“I chose properties in three different areas of the Gladstone Region, which were Tannum Sands, Calliope and Gladstone, as I thought it was important for viewers to get a snapshot of everything we have to offer in our beautiful region including beachside, rural and city living.
“There really is something to suit every buyer here, whether owner/occupiers or investors and I wanted the episode to reflect that.
“Our Gladstone Region market is holding very steady at the moment with an abundance of buyers from Southern and Western Queensland and interstate looking at relocating here. We constantly hear that our house prices are significantly lower than the areas that they are moving from and that we represent excellent value for money.
“With the current and pending industries including the Twiggy Forest funded hydrogen manufacturing plant, our year-round beautiful weather, and an incredible community with an abundance of things to do, the region consistently appeals to a wide demographic of people including young families, first home buyers, couples, retirees and investors.
“There will be a great deal of growth in our region through the coming decade, so we believe now is most certainly the best time to buy into the real estate market.”
In the show, Ros introduces bright and bubbly couple, buyers Brad and Lehanne Kerkow who are moving into the region, and three of her vendors. The Tannum Sands listing is a double storey with a beautifully renovated kitchen, massive caravan and boat port and huge shed walking distance to the shops and beach. He Calliope listing is a spacious low set, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with beautiful rural views and the third that Ros shows the buyers is a lovely renovated low set Gladstone home with four bedrooms, one bathroom, a gorgeous swimming pool and a shed.
“We spent the day with host of the show, Catriona Rowntree, and her patient and very professional film crew.”
A multi-award-winning agent, Ros Waters is a well-known and respected identity after selling real estate exclusively in the Gladstone region since 2006.
“I’m so proud to have been chosen as the local real estate agent to help promote and showcase the Gladstone Region. It was a fantastic day and an experience I will never forget!”
Country House Hunters Australia, hosted by Catriona Rowntree, helps couple relocating from the city to an Australian region location, showing them three houses that suit their specific brief.
Season 3 of Channel Nine’s Country House Hunters commenced on 26th May this year. The Gladstone episode (Episode 19) aired at 7.30pm on 23rd June in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Gladstone episode dates are still to be announced for Queensland and New South Wales viewers due to the clash with the airing of the State of Origin.

FROM REAL ESTATE CLIENT TO TV STAR
“You’d like us to do what?”
It only took a moment of hesitation before Lehanne and Brad Kerkow gave a resounding ‘yes’ to a request to appear in an episode of Country House Hunters Australia. As reasonably regular viewers of the Chanel 9 lifestyle show hosted by Catriona Rowntree, Lehanne said there was a sense of familiarity. Knowing the format of the show helped their confidence but watching the show and actually appearing in an episode were two very different things. First up was a test interview via Zoom.
“We were a bit quiet just at the start but then we opened up as we felt more comfortable,” Lehanne said. “It was not something we’d ever done before!” The production team gave Lehanne and Brad a few pointers.
“They asked up to look at the person filming rather than each other; and although we could hear a voice giving us constant prompts, we had to try and answer those prompted questions without it sounding like we were doing so.”
That was a quick learning curve for the couple!
The only restriction to clothing was there to be no branding. When day two of filming turned out to be a miserable rainy day, Lehanne said it was a scramble to find non-branded umbrellas. She says that Catriona Rowntree helped them feel very comfortable and confident.
“Catriona was very friendly, down to earth, and encouraging, and that helped us inject our own personality into the proceedings, which went down very well. We even did a few spur-of-the-moment things!”
The production crew told Lehanne that they had rarely completed filming in so few takes.
She described the overall experience as a buzz, and one that will be a topic of conversation for a long time. She said there was a lot to learn from the experience and she would know more about what to expect next time.
“Would we do it again?’ said Lehanne. “Yes, in a heartbeat.”
